Alice in Wonderland review

2010

I went out and saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D. I saw the 3D version just to see if I could actually see 3D movies. It was rather straining on the eyes, but I can see it. It’s not so dramatic as to be worth the eye straining though. I was a bit disappointed in the plot of the movie, although the acting was just fine. Twiddledee and Twiddledum was disappointing. The Cheshire Cat was brilliant! The Mad Hatter is still mad, but not as mad as the March Hare. I suppose I would’ve preferred seeing an Alice that was still a child and not an adult. I’m just a huge critic though, so don’t take my opinions to seriously. In summary, it was very predictable and I dislike predictable movies.

I stopped at Target before I went home and picked Evie up some new 4T underwear. Her 2T-3T are a little snug. She enjoyed folding them this morning. I also picked up some cute stuffed bunny rabbits for Evie and Kiki for Easter. I didn’t see anything I’d like for Ory, but I have plenty of time to find something. He had a dinosaur with bunny ears last year.

Something I forgot to mention was that I finished read a real book Friday afternoon. I read Journey to the Centre of the Earth by Jules Verne on my nook. It was an excellent book. I loved the main character a lot. It helps to have some knowledge of science and old english writing though. You also have to keep in mind that the author wasn’t English and it went through the perils of translation. If you can ignore those facts, it was a good book. I also had the disadvantage of it being a Google eBook, meaning it had lots of misspellings.

Now I’m trying to decide what book I want to start reading next. This year, I want to pick up a habit of reading. I’ve been pretty good thus far, reading seven Roald Dahl (children’s books), including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and, my all time favorite, The BFG. I want to read some classics seeing as I missed a lot of classic literature in school. I’ve never read Moby Dick, A Christmas Carol, Pride and Prejudice, etc, or any of Shakespeare’s works. We’ll see how I do.

In regards to school, I have to write 2 essays by the end of this month. I’m not doing good on it due to lack of time, or quiet.

Another catchup

A lot has happened since I last updated, the major event being Christmas. Lots of presents. We unwrapped things on web cam for the in-laws and recorded it at the same time. The video camera turned off at some unknown point, but that’s ok. Half-way through the unwrapping, I started feeling a bit sick and continued feeling off for about two days. The kids got a bunch of toys and some clothes, Tim got a bunch of train stuff, and I got a bunch of things from my wish list. Ory’s favorite item has to be the toy vacuum. Evie’s favorite item is Ory’s turtle nightlight/constellation show, Tim’s favorite item is his DCC locomotive, and my favorite item is something I didn’t even ask for. It’s a handmade felt mouse rowing on a felt leaf I found on Etsy.com a long time ago, that Tim happened to buy!). I love it and need to get it a display case or something to help preserve it. I don’t need the dust mites eating it alive. I threw out the dogs presents a couple days ago. There was nothing but fabric pieces and stuffing left. I’m still finding stuffing.

The New Years was uneventful for the most part. My sister called and we talked about a movie Tim and I had just finished watching (Observe and Report) and how there is a naked man in it. Seeing a naked man in any movie is so very rare. The naked man torments a mall by streaking through it and never getting caught, driving the head of security crazy. I wouldn’t watch it again because other than the surprising ending, it was just dull. Anyway, New Years is less than interesting for me. We ate a bunch of junk food and had some sparkling apple cider.

Tim’s been working on his train and I’ve been slacking off on my work. I haven’t really played any of my new games yet either. In fact, I’ve pretty much done nothing. I’m just too tired and not in the mood. I sleep and watch the kids, that’s pretty much it right now. I’ve been getting a nightly bath instead of shower lately, and since then sleeping has been less painful. I can roll over without being in pain now, but it’s still a hassle to roll over.

My sister had a baby last year on December 28th. It was a baby girl one week overdue. They had to induce her. Now I have three nieces and two nephews, or four nieces and three nephews if you count my brothers steps. If you count my sisters boyfriends son, then I have four nieces and four nephews! Why do things have to be so complicated? My littlest sister is still too young to have kids. She’s only 17 but I hear she has a boyfriend. I think my littlest sister is pretty smart though, so I don’t have to worry about that. She’ll have the very last batch of family babies most likely.

Speaking of babies, I’m due in 18 days. I’ll probably go late so that means nothing. I found out I’ve been taking my iron pills all wrong this whole time, which is depressing. I was supposed to be taking one pill twice a day, not just one pill once a day. So my anemia hasn’t improved at all. I’ve been taking my two pills diligently now. For some reason, this has only increased my bathroom trips and causes me to be gassy. For those never-been-pregnant people, pregnant and having gas can be painful.

Last night, I actually did something fun for me. I read a children’s book called Fantastic Mr. Fox from the Roald Dahl book collection Tim got me some time ago. It was a very short book, so I made quick work of it. It’s a very good children’s book.

I’ll save more things to talk about for later. I’m wiped out from my first day back on the job. Tim went back to work today after a two week vacation.

No Door Unopened

2009

When we moved into our house we started by replacing doorknobs, primarily to change the locks (we also wanted uniformity.) In the end we went with a lever style knob. Maybe this wasn’t the best idea, since our kids are able to open any door in the house now. Ory has recently mastered this skill, and is currently playing in the broom closet as I write this. He will also open the bathroom door around 20 times a day, causing one of us to chase him down.

There are 3 knobs I still need to install, and I hope to do that this weekend. Just in time for us to get sick of it and find something to keep Ory from opening every door…

2 things down, 99 to go

2009

We have completed 2 out of our 101 things to do in 1001 days list. Well, almost. We got one done today, and one arrives tomorrow. More stuff arrives tomorrow that completes more goals, but they require assembly so I don’t think they’ll get done right away. So I have #101 done, and #55 will be done for sure tomorrow.

#101 is to fix my sewing machine. I got the missing cable today. FIXED!
#55 is to get a new mixer. Tim bought me one for my birthday and I get it tomorrow. He gets one of his presents from me tomorrow as well. The other present I got him hasn’t shipped yet. Too bad his presents don’t cross out anything on the list.

A normal day comes

2009

Today is going as it typically does, which is all sorts of awesome. There has been no injuries reported today. Evie seems to be taking her nap, although she did protest. Ory went down for his nap early because he was becoming a bit cranky and was lounging all over me when not cranking. There has been no hamster death, so I assume this means that Riddick has officially survived his near-death experience.

I accidently sprayed the table with watered-down bleach that I had in an old Windex bottle. Oops. I cleaned it up and marked the bottle. I could’ve sworn I threw that out. I got most the pictures I ordered today. Of course, the bit I’m missing is the portion that has pictures I have to have in it. It was shipped via USPS, so who knows when I’ll get it. The other came via Fed-ex. Speaking of deliveries, I find that they have a special talent. I don’t know how many times I go to put Ory down to sleep and I see a delivery truck pull up. Only when Ory goes to sleep. In fact, if I want to predict the time they’ll show up, I’ll say it’s at Ory’s nap time. Maybe I should put him down if I want them to show up sooner?

Anyway, I started sorting through the photos I already have. I have 2 out of 6 packets in correct order. Yes, I am that picky. They must be in the exact order I took them in. Unless I have only so much space left in an existing album, and it would clearly break up a set.. Then I might put it out of order, only barely.

I’ve also started ripping my Gummi Bears DVDs to put on the Apple TV. I have seasons 1 – 3. Today, I am working on season 2. At this writing, I have 3 more episodes left in that season, and they take about 30 minutes each. Yesterday I did season 1, and I’ll probably do season 3 tomorrow. This would bring up our count for the 1001 project #97 up pretty high. When I’m done with this season, I’ll have 32 episodes. We need 40. We aren’t counting it until we actually transfer them to the Apple TV. I have many other things we want to bring over too. Like, A Christmas Story. It’s easier just to sync them over all at once than to keep re-sycning after you finish something.

1001 Days Project

Jul 26
2009

I mentioned earlier that I would be starting the 101 things in 1001 days project. We have finally finished the list, and organized it a little bit. You can find a link for it at the top. Or click here if you can’t find it. I’ve given us a start date of August 1st 2009, and an end date of April 28th 2012. It will be interesting to see what exactly we get accomplished. Some are easier than others, and some are hard on the wallet moreso than others. Some things are also things we’ve already started, but most likely won’t have finished by the official ‘start date’. If we do finish something early, I’ll be changing the dates.

Feedback and lots of encouragement is welcomed!
